Short films based on works by Charles Dickens Jonathan Swift, Arthur Conan Doyle and the Grimm Brothers, among others, followed. The first feature film adaptation (actually four shorts combined into one feature film) was a 1909 rendition of Victor Hugo’s âMiserablesâ.
