Swift Current AA teams come out on top of the weekend action

It was an offensive weekend in action for Swift Current AA Hockey as the Broncos and Wildcats came out mostly victorious.

The U13 Southwest Terminal Broncos continued to dominate in their second game of the season, following last week’s 11-1 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors with another roadside teardown in Moose Jaw, this time 12 -2.

The Broncos came up on the board early and often, four times passing a beleaguered Warriors goalie at Brycen Gailbrath who would face 40 shots in the contest.

The Warriors would enter the board late in the first frame and again late in the second, but the third would see the Broncos drop on six more scorers, including the second of three from Kadyn Olfert. Kasey Gleim and Jamie Kirwan would each score a pair and a handful of assists to end the afternoon with 5 and 4 points respectively.

The U15 Pure Chem Broncos meanwhile passed the Yorkton PAC Terriers at Fairview West 6-3 with a solid net effort as Berney Weston would stop 35 of 38 for a save percentage of .921.

And the U18 Abbey Resource Squad would round out the winning trio, beating the Lumsden / Bethune Lions in a back-to-back homestand at Fairview West on Saturday and Sunday.

Garret Kurtz would contribute the majority of goals on Saturday, winning the treble in the Broncos’ 4-2 win. He would add another pair of scorers in Sunday’s 3-2 rematch.

In the lair of the Wildcats, The Saskatoon Comet Impact dug the crater of the Wildcats U15 Graphic Edge during their two clashes in Fairview East on Friday and Saturday. They would spoil the Cats’ home opener with a 4-0 shutout, followed by Saturday’s with a 7-1 tame.

The Comet Impact placed Wildcats goalie Ryann Erickson with 40 shots on goal en route to victory.

The Under-18 team would fare better as they would descend the golden wings from the southeast to the iPlex before heading out on a northern route; split a pair of games.

In Saskatoon on Saturday to face the Comet Legends, they lost a close game that would see no scores until the middle of the final period when Shelby Lacoursiere finally resolved the tender Jorja Imrie to give the Comet Legends the narrow victory.

The Wildcats would cash in their frustrating loss to the Northwest Sharks on Sunday, as Hailey Lowe scored a pair and provided an assist in the third as they shut out the Sharks 3-0.
