Nittany Lion fencing team opens season in Philadelphia with Temple Open


University Park, Pennsylvania – The Penn State men’s and women’s fencing teams will open the season this weekend at the Temple Open in Philadelphia, Pa., Hosted by Temple University. The open is expected to attract nearly 500 athletes from 30 schools. The event will take place on October 23 and 24.

Interim Head Coach Adam kaszubowski will lead a contingent of nearly 20 student-athletes to the event.

Women’s fencing this weekend will be:

Foil – Samantha catantan (Quezon City, Philippines), Ari Proietti (Como, Italy), Ariel Rastep (San Francisco, California)

Sword – Kateryna Chorniy (Kiev, Ukraine), Jaclyn Khrol (Brooklyn, NY), Axelle Wasiak (Vlaams-Brabant, Belgium), Sabine Desamours (Warrenton, Virginia), Jordan Liverant (Brooklyn, New York)
Saber – Pauline Conscience (Paris, France)

Men’s fencing this weekend will be:

Foil – Canon Caiden (Gahanna, Ohio), Donavyn Martinez (Fresno, CA), Konner Paik (Norwood NJ)

Sword – Mitchel Bekker (Brooklyn, New York), Stafford Moosekian (Los Angeles, California), Daniel Shifron (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania)

Saber – Jeff Basalyga (Saddle River, NJ), Fernando Chacon (La Paz, Bolivia), Clement Perrier (Allauch, France)

After this week, selected members of the Nittany Lion teams will attend the NAC Division 1 meet in St. Louis, Missouri from October 29 to November 1.
